| | Mon Jun 16, 2008 Grande Portage Resources Ltd. Announces Start Of Exploration Program At Pass Property And Merry Widow
|
| | VANCOUVER, BC, June 16, 2008 - Grande Portage Resources Ltd. (TSX-V GPG) ("Grande Portage" or "the Company") is pleased to announce the start of its exploration programs for the Pass and Merry Widow Properties for the upcoming 2008 season.
Pass Property
Crews are currently evaluating the snow conditions in the alpine regions of the property where the historic trenches will be cleaned, re-mapped and systematically channel sampled prior to drill testing. During the same visit a camp location will be selected for the grid based soil sampling and magnetometer and VLF-EM surveys on the lower elevations aimed at locating extensions to the known mineralized quartz veins.
It is anticipated that the grid work can begin in a few weeks, followed by the evaluation of the old trenches in early July as a prelude to drilling in late July to early August. As previously announced the Company's sampling program was highly successful. In 2007, 44 rock grab samples were collected from old trenches hosting quartz-sulphide bearing veins.
All of the samples reported gold to a high of 72.95 g/t. Of the 44 samples collected 13 reported in excess of 5.0 g/t gold including 6 samples exceeding 20 g/t gold. Silver values were consistently anomalous with 6 samples reporting in excess of 100 g/t silver, to a high of 365 g/t silver. Copper, lead and zinc were similarly anomalous with highs of 11.13% copper, 29.0% lead and 20.14% zinc.
Merry Widow Property
A prospecting crew has mobilized to the west side of Merry Widow Mountain to evaluate new and highly prospective airborne electromagnetic anomalies revealed by the 2007 airborne geophysical survey. The Company is very encouraged by these anomalies as they appear to be in the contact zone between Quatsino limestone and the Merry Widow pluton, a highly favorable environment for skarn mineralization exactly like that of the past producing Merry Widow open pit and the underground operations at the Coast Copper and Benson Lake mines.
The intensity and length of the anomalies is significantly greater than those outlined by the 2006 airborne survey that encompassed the past producing open pit and underground mines. If the prospecting crews are successful then grids will be established over the anomalies for subsequent ground-based geologic mapping, sampling and geophysical surveys prior to preliminary drill testing.
A late summer or early fall drill program is planned for the Merry Widow open pit area to expand the currently defined geological resource; an initial 2,000 to 3,000 metres is planned on 50 metre spaced holes. If these are successful infill drilling will be completed to expand the 43-101 compliant resource calculation.
